very good guitar player
seems to have a good sense of humor
tends to say really stupid things
makes one of the most (if not the most) awful faces when playing
I don't really care for any of his songs

a better response would be, who cares about the poll! ha!
mayer is a better guitar player than most of us; the girls like him because he is cute and he is a young gun guitar player. what more could he want? ha! ha!

I am guessing at least some of you saw my post in the other thread. Some of you were even angry with me. I voted who cares. He is good not great. I am just tired of every thread on high end guitars hearing about his 30K guitar at home.

forgot the "Who the heck is John Mayer?" option... (falls just below the "Don't care" button.)

I'm not a lead player myself so I can't judge his playing technically, but when i watch and listen to him playing electric guitar I'm moved. I don't say that lightly. He's invited to play with all the 'legends' and is right at home if not more interesting (imo).

I understand he's not a likeable sort, but he can play with the best and his licks are not predictable - like many I hear.

JMO tho...

For me.......

Not a real fingerstylist like TE or LJ etc...... but,

Way better than average acoustic player
Way Way better than average electric player (Tone, melody etc...)
Great singer and songwriter......
A bit tough to "watch" sometimes :-)......

He's one artist where I don't understand the strong reactions one way or another. Seems quite a good player. Voice is fine, not overwhelmingly great, but I'd have though not so distinctive as to cause a big reaction.

Gotta be the hot girls or the signature models driving the reaction?

"I don't care" seems to strong a reaction even. He's fine.

Fine song writer and performer. He's unique, and he can play the guitar. At one point I was ho-hum, just never sat down to listen. Once I connected with some of his stuff and realized the variety of styles he covers competently, I was impressed.

Initially I wrote him off. then I heard a bootleg copy of the solo acoustic demos for his "Room for Squares" album. I was blown away by it. Underneath all of the production and hype lies a very talented songwriter and guitar player.
