I should've bought that SCGC OM42 Tree from you a ways back - I'm still kicking myself over that one.

I'm fine with subtle or full bling just as long as the fingerboard doesn't have wild inlays all over the place.

When I had James Goodall build me my Grand Concert, I purposefully avoided any sort of "bling"... and then James and Luke added a "pink heart" abalone rosette to the build, as a birthday present to me. It's lovely and not too over-the-top, not at all...
That's about the route I would go if I were commissioning a build, but, if I were buying used, then the only thing that matters is feel, tone and volume. I'd take nearly any sort of looks if all those factors were impressive. I am over 60 and I didn't vote, 'cause there wasn't a category that fit my answer...

don't know what the age has to do with it, but, bling depends upon the guitar. some i would like it on, and others i want plain.
play music!

I like a good sounding guitar with bling like a Martin D-42.
The cost of that bling was more than I was willing to put out so I got a D-35 instead. Later on, I got a beautiful Guild D-55 with very tasteful bling. I still like the sound of the Martin better but the Guild holds it's own and looks marvelous.

An abalone rosette always looks nice. Lots of bling on one guitar is quite satisfying - you'll never need another one.

You'll note from my signature that most of my guitars have some bling. Hey, I'm a girl over 60, I like beautiful, tasteful guitars. My Olson is probably the plainest of my guitars.

The Martin D-200. Are gears and levers considered bling?

000-42 is my dream guitar for the tone but the bling is certainly a very nice touch as well. Once you get beyond style 42 or 800 series Taylor you get too gaudy for my taste.

I like the Gibson Hummingbird, J200 pickguard bling even though I'm a Martin fan at heart.

A few over the big 60, and my Larrivee L-10 is one, great looking , sounding and playing guitar.

This topic seems to come up quite a bit here on AGF. That's OK, I like showing this guitar almost as much I like playing it.
Oh yeah, I'm under 60 and love, love love bling. Especially the bling on my Larrivee LV-10 50th Anniversary. A Martin 42/45 series OM, a Taylor Presentation series, are guitars I could see owning someday. My next guitar will probably not have much if any bling on it. If I do decide to go custom, it will most definitely have bling. |
