classical pickups
I'm considering an electric nylon string guitar and looking at various pickups and would welcome suggestions.
One pickup that has my attention is the LR Baggs Anthem SL Classical; has anyone here experienced this particular pickup? |

Ohhh... from the title, I thought the discussion was going to be...
Is it hot in here, or is it just you? I suffer from amnesia - do I come here often? Do you believe in love at first sight or do I have to walk by you again? Sorry - wrong classical pickups. The only experience I have with nylon strings is my ukulele... no pickup, and the chords are all in the wrong place. My mistake. Carry on. |

You see how nylon string threads can mess with you? Do you see?

I use K&K pickups in my crossover and a couple of ukuleles. An outboard preamp and volume pedal are not essential but preferred.

This is what Alistair recommended when I corresponded with him about a year ago for our latest adventure - which is still on hold awaiting funding. http://www.rmcpickup.com these have an excellent reputation. I had these installed on my Parker Spanish Fly over 10 years ago and the improvement over the factory installed Fishman piezo system was immense! I had 1980's technology Baggs dual source (internal mic and under saddle piezo installed in my 1982 Sakurai way back in the late 80s when Baggs first came out with dual source pickups, and liked the sound. Probably different systems work differently with different guitars. AND, different people have different opinions of what sounds the best. Best wishes with your next step on the never ending quest for better sound.... |

MOOH: I like the K&K and have it in my other nylon string guitars.
CECILT: I had not seen the Barbera transducers--I'll be checking them out. I've had the RMC and wasn't fond of it. Thanks for your input... |

After some on-line investigation, the Barbera is looking really good.

CecilY,
Was the Baggs dual source youre familiar with called the Micro Duet? If so, is there anything you can tell me about it? Did it require special cabling? Did you run it Dan's any other outboard gear? We're you using an undersaddle or an LB6? |

Eh... love.. not that type of love you know? Whatever. Back on track. AER AK15plus should be good. UST mic-in-preamp hybrid pickup with mic/vol mix control. |

dannyg1, Sorry that I do not remember any of the details of the 1980s (or was it early 90s, yeah, I think that it was during or before 1992) L.R. Baggs dual source system that I used for a decade or so. I do recall that no unique wiring was required, just a regular 1/4" guitar cable. The control device was a mounted at the top of the sound hole and consisted of just 2 thumbwheels. The 9 v pre-amp box was mounted inside the guitar, it was a real pain to replace the battery. The "micro-duet" name sounds familiar, but I do not recall if that was the name of the unit that I had.
