I've played the princely total of one Simon Fay guitar, the first one that Trevor had in some years back. I remember being very impressed, both by its tone and build quality. I'm sure both can only have improved in the interim. This should be a great instrument.

Cheers,
Steve

Looks like a gorgeous instrument! I like the lines...simple and unobtrusive, not the mention the 'squareness" of the shoulders. Very nice!

Simon, I love the detail in the cut-away. I haven't seen anything like that before.

Simon...
There are two inlays on the cutaway that look like "bar codes", for a lack of a more appropriate description. Are these design elements which were born out of necessity (to cover existing flaws in the wood), or did you simply decide to add them for aesthetical purposes? Whichever the case, they are tastefully rendered, and look like they belong there.

There were 3 very thin checks that opened up during the bending process. I laminate my sides and use a very thick interior laminate of Port Orford Cedar which is exceptionally light and especially resistant to splitting. So no worries regarding stability. But yes, they were inlaid to cover flaws. Wood like this is just so rare to come by that you sometimes just have to be willing to find a way to overcome minor flaws. Fortunately, Black and White Ebony is so inkblot in nature that under a finish, the inlays will just blend in.

Before the binding went on I thought this was looking like quite a nice build but he inclusion of the dark binding has really taken it up to another level.

The attention to detail is exquisite and I think the inlay to cover the flaws in the cutaway actually adds to the attraction. Perhaps this could be a feature on future builds. I often think a contrasting 'repair' can be more interesting than an invisible cover up.

Love it.
