Making your own Purfling
Hello everyone! New to posting here (signed up late last year but life got in the way) but just became an official member. I am really excited about finding this place as I love playing the acoustic and I'm just getting into building for my personal interests. As with most forums I frequent, I am happy to say that the level of professionalism I have found here is quite satisfying. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this!
Now, on to my question(s). Could some of you elaborate on some techniques in building your own custom purfling or know of some good resources that I might invest in? I have done some searching on the net but most information I find isn't conducive to assisting the beginner such as myself. The quality work I've seen here so far is amazing and my hat's off to all of you! Thanks again for this wonderful site and I hope to be able to contribute as well in other ways than just monetarily!

Hi, Welcome
Guitarmaker magazine has had some neat articles on making your own Rosettes and purfling. You get the magazine though joining A.S.I.A The Official Luthiers forum has posted some great examples. Their search engine can be tough. Stew Mac and LMI sell the materials to do it. I am not sure if they have tutorials. I have made binding with scrap wood a good caliper and a band saw.

Thanks, YJ! I checked out the Luthiers Forum and found some good stuff. I'll be checking into A.S.I.A. and the Guitarmakers Magazine too to see what I can find. You wouldn't by any chance know of a book anywhere would ya? I'll have to see if Barnes & Noble has any books on guitar making that might have a chapter on binding and purfling. Thanks again, Yamaha! Very much appreciated!!!
