Default Everyday I Write the Book cover

Hi, all

Here's a cover of Everyday I Write the Book, based on a sweet version by Ron Sexsmith. It's recorded with a Blue Yeti usb mic and the guitar is my Santa Cruz OM. Enjoy!

Rich,

That is absolutely fantastic! One of the few tunes I like by him and I do love it. You do it more than justice and make it sound like it belongs solo acoustic! Perfect voice for it as well!

Nice work.

Nice playing and singing on this 80's classic. Haven't heard this in forever. Great job and thanks for sharing.

Sam, thanks for persevering with the link and for your encouraging words. It's feels great to have one's vocals called "fresh" in middle age!

Jodi, thanks for the enthusiastic response. I admire Elvis Costello a lot, but haven't been able to like as much of his music as I'd like to. Hearing Ron Sexsmith re-invent this tune was a revelation... By the way, really enjoyed your version of "She Belongs to Me", great vibe, awesome vocal...

Rich, thanks for the positive response- I value your feedback!

And millerszj, glad you liked the song- I hadn't heard it in a long time either. It brings me back to early MTV!

Thanks, all, for taking the time to listen and comment.

Rich

Really nice finger pickin' and singing. Did you record yourself playing and singing at the same time or were those separate tracks?

Thanks for the nice response, glissongs. This was recorded as a single track in stereo. I just picked up the blue yeti usb mic for quick and easy recording and this is an example of the mic sitting on the dining room table about 18 inches away from me. The vocal is quite a bit louder than the guitar so I'll be playing with mic placement to try to get a better balance.

Again, thanks for the positive response.

Hey all,

I recently got PM'ed by a nice guy who wanted to know more about how to play this tune. Felt like the easiest way to do so was to make a quick video. In case anyone else is interested, it can be found here:

I very much enjoy the exchanges that come of this forum- good stuff!
