Smile Yes, Kevin is a very nice gentleman!

I want to chime in here about Kevin, and what a nice guy he is!!!

A Couple years ago I took him one of his awesome babies that had a well fixed and cleated back crack, but some ugly finish scars on the beautiful Madigascar back.
He was kind enough to give it a complete check up and then I took it to Tim Luranc at Taylor Repair for a trip thru the Taylor UV booth to fix the finish.
Kevin and his lovely wife were most gracious and he gave me a fascinating tour of his shop.
It was a long day of driving, from east of San Diego, but a good one!
Thanks Kevin! I still remember that day fondly.

Cheers

Paul

Just discussing the challenges he faced doing that "moonburst", and that he actually may be doing another finish similar to yours... Other than that, I just mentioned that it was cool to see a build thread of his on the AGF, and talking in general of his building philosophies. For a man with some pretty unique design features, he's very open about many of his techniques and ideas, which I find among most all builders in this community. Really cool...
Or I'll consider it anyways

The Moonburst took Kevin about a month of trial and error, I'd say. He sent me a number of pictures, all of which were failed attempts on other tops. He asked me questions about every one of them...things about the thickness of the banding, where the fading out was happening etc...and every time he adjusted to the things we discussed. As he mentioned, it was the actual fading that gave him fits...
If you're ever in the Bay Area feel free to reach out! I'll put it in your hands.

Default The gorgeous Kevin Ryan 30th anniversary series

As a thank you from the Ryan camp Kevin has sent us these pictures of his 30th anniversary guitar...and it's remarkable. Built with master grade Brazilian Rosewood, sinker (or "submersion" in Ryan talk) redwood, and a California theme throughout...this guitar is a wonder.

Kevin had to "invent" a new technology to create that rosette...I love it. And I think that may be the most beautiful sinker top I've ever seen.
