Would these microphones work with my audio interface?
Hi, I'm planning on recording acoustic fingerstyle.
It's an electroacoustic guitar, and the microphones are the Rode M5 match pair. Excuse my english it's not my native. So I'm intending to record with both microphones and also at the same time record "direct", I mean with the guitar plugged directly to the audio interface. So basically, as the Rode M5 doesn't come with plugs, maybe I should buy two separate microphone plugs, I don't know the enligsh terms, but basically the one with a standard "guitar" output to plug in the interface and the other output being the standard microphone one with the 3 round pins. Or do I need to buy two of these plugs: the ones with two microphone outputs? More precisely, in which part of the interface do I have to connect the microphone plugs? The audio interface is Tascam MK144: |

They don’t seem to require phantom power and that would be your only limitation on that interface as it only supplies phantom power (switchable) to the first channel.
You should be good to go.

Rode M5
It was my belief that they need phantom power. I have a set, but the phantom is always on on my mixer. Nice basic little mikes, certainly priced right. I have not experimented with mine, bought them to use with harp and Irish drum. They use XLR connections, which you have on your Tascam. I have not recorded with mine, but they are intended for stereo use.

If that’s the case then his interface will not work

Why would that be? The interface has a phantom power switch.

Because it only applies phantom power to first channel an not the second.

"The US-144mkII starts with two great-quality XLR microphone preamps with phantom power for condenser microphones. " I don't know if that means that both inputs go with phantom power. In case it doesn't is it more convenient to a) Get a new audio interface that applies p.power to two channels b) Get a non match paired microphone such as Audiotechnica AT2020 c) Still buy the Rode M5 matched pair but only record with one mic. |

It looks to me like the phantom power is supplied to both microphones, so I think he's good to go.

As to connecting the pickup from the guitar, if both XLRs are being used for mics, then the line in RCA jack becomes a balanced line level input (per the manual). Whether or not the signal from the guitar's pickup will work well, or not so well, going into a line level input depends. If it doesn't work well, it may be necessary to run the pickup into a preamp to get the level up to line level before routing it into the Tascam.

I assume you mean that the mics did not come with cables. You should use standard XLR-XLR mic cables to connect the two mics to the Mic In jacks on your interface. You will not be able to also use the direct out of your guitar because your interface only has 2 input channels.
You could use 1 mic and the direct-in from your guitar, however.
