I have owned a mini for 2 years. Was my office little gem. As of Taylor guitars, they are unique sounding instruments. That what makes people love them. However, I do not like cutaways and the only instrument that I would love to own was a custom (BTO) GS model that I played in the past. What was super about that guitar was the playability and the sound.

not only taylor, but you should try many brands of guitar. you'd be surprised!

the taylor i have is a 712 with no cutaway and no electronics as i prefer it that way. excellent guitar, but, so are my others.

play music!

Interesting thread. Starts off with I've never played a Taylor then morphs, without withdrawal, to yes I have, "I have owned a Taylor gs mini for about two months."..... So now what's the point? I too purchase Taylors without knobs and cutouts.

There are a number of high end acoustic guitar brands - each with their own characteristics. If you enjoy playing acoustic guitar then not trying one or more of these major brands is kind of silly assuming that you have a decent guitar store anywhere near you or if you ever travel to a city with a decent guitar store. To start with the big three quality American acoustic builders of large numbers of guitars are Martin, Taylor and Larrivee. Then you should start adding in some of the smaller producers of quality acoustics starting with Collings and then adding Guild (the US built ones), Gibson and then getting into the even smaller production ones such as Goodall, Santa Cruz, Breedlove, Huss and Dalton and a few others. Finding and trying some the very small production luthier acoustics is very difficult but if you ever can try one makers such as Olson, Manzer, Wingert, and a few others.

If you do not at least try as many of these as you have an opportunity to try then you are blinding yourself to your possibilities of finding an instrument that will give you the sound and playability that you really want.

No sorry I owned it about 3 or 4 years ago, for about two months as I thought it had a toy guitar feel about it. I suppose I forgot because it was so inconsequential. I will also add I am very happy with two Martins, two Gibsons and three Eastmans I currently have. However, I will make every effort to try a Taylor. What would you folk recommend in a 000 sort of size with spruce top. No electrics or cutaways mind!

I was introduced to Taylor guitars by my local dealer in the early 90's, when they were the" new kid on the block". I tried out an 810 and should have bought it on the spot--played like a strat and sounded great. I eventually bought another 810 but it wasn't the same action.

I'm not a particular fan of the Taylor sound, but the way they are built, with the shim-adjustable bolt-on neck has great appeal to me. - I get the feeling that Bob Taylor knew exactly what he was doing in terms of lutherie. I've read that their necks appealed to electric guitarists when they were getting started, but that style of neck is more common now.

But why, though? Like homework? You're happy with what you've got, you don't have a "yen" to try them, and so on. I like Taylors but to each his own.

What back/sides do you typically prefer? I have owned 12 Taylor guitars and most were sold off. I discovered I prefer Taylor Mahogany guitars over Rosewood. No electronics or cutaways for me would be 516, 312, GC3, GS5.... If you prefer Rosewood certainly try an 814 or GA8.

I've never owned or played a Santa Cruz or a Froggy Bottom, does that mean I don't like them? I play every brand and style I come across and I've learned about some great guitars. I've also tried several that made me itch in a bad way. LOL

Being open minded isn't a bad thing. I've had my 710 (no cut away, no factory electronics) for 23 years and I love it. Not sure if I'll every buy another Taylor, but if I play one that blows me away like this one did I'll be all over it.

I actually really like the 3 knobs on taylor electros. I’m not a huge fan of the ES2 though I just can’t seem to get a great sound out of it with my style of play. I’ve only had half an hour to mess with it though in a shop through an amp so it could be me.

I love the playability of Taylor’s and their clarity. I played an acadamey A12 the other day and REALLY liked it. If I didn’t have the two small martins I’d have bought it for travel.

I traded these 2 Taylor guitars a couple of years ago.

The 355 introduced me to the wonderful world of jumbo 12-strings.
The 422 established my prejudice against small body guitars - thin and weak, could never bond with it.

Having said that, both guitars were well made and easy to play and I would be proud to own another Taylor guitar .... just not a small one.

I like to try different guitars when the opportunity presents itself.

There is no telling what I'm going to like the sound of, and , even though I routinely don't find myself drawn to some of the ubiquitous brands, I do still try them out when friends show up with their newest acquisition and words of high praise.

Because, until I play it, I really just don't know. I can strongly suspect, for sure, but 100% without a doubt needs a full immersion hands-on event to be sure.

With Taylors, I expect a kind of bright sassy tone that doesn't well accompany my music selections. But I try them all the time, I think because I am attracted to the visual appearance of some models.

I don't think I need five spruce top guitars , one is fine, and a cedar top plus I would like a mahogany top to round out the collection.

then I'd feel that the tonal range of the instrument would be well covered, and Brand-wise - I don't care at all. Sounds great and great action is all I want.
