1949 Martin 00-18 Shadetop - Price Lowered
The Howthewestwas1 family is growing so I am scaling back on the gear collection. And in doing so I'm letting this beauty go. She is a 1949 Martin 00-18 shadetop. Only 10 were made this year. I purchased it from Frank's personal collection at Thunder Road Guitars earlier this year (click here for the old listing and store pics). It is crack free. It has had a neck reset, refret and a new rosewood (looks Brazilian but can't confirm) bridge with the original included as well. She plays very well and is the loudest/most responsive 00-18 I've owned (out of several). The pics show the old saddle that had even lower action but I've since had a new one put in. Action currently at the 12th fret is 3/32 on the E and 2/32"is on the e with room on the saddle to come down. The new saddle and setup was done by John Thurston at Guitar Tex in San Antonio, which should speak for itself. Comes with older 60's ish hardshell case. I'm looking to walk away with $5000 ***SOLD*** at the end of the day but will entertain offers. No trades, please. I pack very well and will ship fully insured to the lower 48. Please feel free to ask questions

Wow, that's a pretty special guitar. Wish I could but I'm pretty full right now.

A really interesting thing to do when acquiring these old guitars is to read the history of events going on around the time the guitar was made. Get a feel for the culture at the time the guitar was made, what type of music might have been played on it, even who might have owned it. These guitars have a very real history. Think along the lines of "if these walls could talk...". These old instruments are special, and we are their caretakers.
