Default SOLD: 2009 Santa Cruz "Fingerstyle" FS

SOLD

For sale is a stock 2009 SCGC FS. I’m selling this guitar because I have ordered a custom instrument which will replace it, due to be delivered next year.

Condition:

I am the original owner of this guitar. Like my other guitars, I’ve played it in regular rotation with my other nine guitars. It has minor fretwear in the first seven frets. It was returned to SCGC for warranty work for a loose brace in 2011 and came back expertly fixed. There are minor handling marks and two cosmetic issues worthy of note: (i) a swirled indentation in the finish in the upper bout on the bass side (this doesn’t reach the wood) and (ii) a small ding on the upper bout near the edge (this reaches the wood). See the last two pictures for these. I haven’t had these repaired. My tech told me repair of both would be fairly easy due to the nitro finish and wouldn’t cost much. Otherwise, the instrument’s cosmetic and structural condition is excellent. The case has never left my home studio and is near mint. There is a stock wood endpin and no neck strap pin has been added to the neck.

Specifications:

The specs and measurements are as follows:

Back and sides: East Indian Rosewood (Dalbergia Latifolia)
Top: Master Grade Red Western Cedar (Thuja Plicata)
Neck: One piece mahogany (no scarfs, ears or heel laminate joint)
Fingerboard and Bridge: Ebony

Width at upper bout: 11 1/4”
Width at waist: 9 1/4”
Depth at tail: 4 3/8”

Fingerboard width at nut: 1 13/16”
String width at nut: 1 17/32”
Fingerboard width at 12th fret: 2 1/4”
String width at saddle: 2 3/8”
Bass side action at 12th fret: 6/64”
Treble side action at 12th fret: 5/64”
Relief at 7th fret: .006”
Saddle height bass side: 1/8”
Saddle height treble side: 3/16”
Neck shape: C, slightly low profile
Scale length: 25.375” (644.5 mm)
Pickguard: None
Pickup: None
Case: Original Armitage deluxe arched hardshell

CITES note: This guitar’s headstock overlay and heelcap are Brazilian rosewood.

Visit the SCGC website for further information about this guitar (http://www.santacruzguitar.com/instruments/fingerstyle/).

Ergonomics, Sonics and Behavior:

In many ways, this is an ultimate fingerstyle guitar. It was designed for that purpose. For a mini-jumbo, it is surprisingly easy to hold and play in part due to a slightly shallower depth than most mini-jumbos. The wider fingerboard (at the nut) facilitates playing complex fingerstyle pieces. It easily handles altered tunings. The timbre is warm, rich and clear. The response is immediate and powerful. It took me some time to learn how to play this guitar...it's that good.

Price and Terms:

Street price for a new SCGC FS is $5,850 (after 10% discount). The price for this instrument is $x,xxx and that price includes insured shipping (lower 48 only) and the Paypal fee. No trades, please.

Oh my, I own one of these. The FS might be my very favorite of all guitars. It's unique, both in sonics and aesthetics. Very special. This one looks to be in fine condition. I might nab it so I have two. Wonderful, beautiful sounding instruments.

I also own one of these SCGC model FS guitars. It is really an ideal guitar with wonderful sustain for instrumental playing, and particularly good at tunings such as DADGAD.

To be helpful here, here are three video recordings of my model FS played in DADGAD, this one played in DADGAD with no capo:

And this one played in DADGAD on capo 3.

And this one played in DADGAD on capo 5:

I have no connection to the owner of the guitar for sale here, just trying to let folks know that this is a fair price on an outstanding instrumental guitar that appears to be in very good condition. This guitar is like a handmade, luthier-built guitar but available for a very reasonable price. Jeff Traugott was on the Santa Cruz team that came up with this design some years ago, and his current guitars sell for a lot of money today.

I hope this is helpful.

The FS has been sold. Even though I have a replacement and somewhat similar new FS build coming this summer, I will miss this guitar.
