right there with you TBMan!
  • We have my mother in law cycling from hospital to rehab in recent weeks.
  • Baby girl is getting married in 8 days.
  • My Type 1 diabetes (diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at 61 years old) is beginning to show more and more variable needs for insulin.
  • It's Winter, and

I'm drawn to the cave.

Thankfully, there's music and my mother in law likes to hear it!

hang in there!

Thanks everyone.

Tomorrow they are going to try to remove the breathing tube again. The first attempt didn't work out.

Time to play my guitar. That seems to make me feel a lot better.

I too was feeling really really anxious and stressed a few weeks ago. I listened to really great music a little more and also found a book called "Dare, the new way to end Anxiety" Books don't usually help me but this one helped and still does help by giving some useful techniques and insights, very useful I would say I recommend it for anyone undergoing stressful times.

Also, as always playing guitar or otherwise engaging in life helps too.

Barry - as you know, many of us are in, or have been in the same situation over the years. In my family, we took care of my Mom, my Dad and my Father-in-law over a seventeen-year period. There was support from other family members and many great caregivers, but also, many nights in the ER, many nights worrying.

I remember one day particularly well: I finagled a day away with a buddy at a Martin guitar picnic, was having a fine old time, when I got a call from my wife. My Dad had fallen on top of my Mom and they were both in the ER! Oh Lordy....

So the only way out is through. Be tough... it’s all about being there - just being there to provide a gentle touch, familiar face or voice to the mix. Don’t think about what is to come.

One last thought: About five years ago, we lost our nephew in a terrible accident. He was recently married and his wife had just given birth to a beautiful girl. Obviously, the funeral was one of the worst days in my life. On the way back home, multiple cars from our family had stopped at the same rest stop. My disabled brother-in-law was just about to turn fifty and we had planned a massive family trip to Las Vegas to celebrate. He said to the gathered family in no uncertain terms, “If we don’t got to Las Vegas for my birthday, I’m going to be really mad!”

So we went. Through the week, some fifteen family members arrived and left. We had an incredible time. What I learned was this. Tragedy will come - you can’t stop it. But happy events can be planned and anticipated. Let those happy events pull you through.

Best,

Rick

Food, tv and seclusion. But, I’m not saying that’s the proper way to handle it.
