Default I need some advice on this SG purchase

I've never owned an SG, but I want one. Tell me why I should or should not buy this particular SG.

An SG with the right name on the headstock for $650? Even if you don’t like it, you should be able to sell it for at least that much!

Because Sam Ash is selling them for $50 less:

http://www.samash.com/sg-special-201...r-gsgsp2016t-p

Other than that, I say grab it...

That's a different model: block inlays, smaller pickguard and mini-humbuckers.

I have that SG model with those Firebird-style mini-humbuckers like the Sam Ash model linked. As I have other electrics with "regular" humbuckers I sought it out for the slightly different sound of those pickups, which cut and snarl just a bit more than most humbuckers if played with some gain, and which can chime too into a cleaner, higher headroom amp.

I like it quite a bit. Just a tiny bit of the SG neck dive, but a suede strap fixes that.

Exactly what I was thinking when I recommended it - OP seemed to be looking more at price than a specific model...

It's a tone machine. Only negative is that there's no hard case, of course that's factored in the price. Note that an SG won't fit in a Les Paul case - I've tried.

He not only linked to a specific model but it appears to be a specific instrument.

I love minihumbuckers but yes, it's a vastly different sound. And I'd argue the definitive/iconic SG sound is humbuckers, followed by probably P-90s a la Live at Leeds-era Who. I associate minihums with Firebirds and Les Paul Deluxes. Only the OP can say what his preference might be.

I will say a guitar routed for humbuckers offers far, far more options for pickup upgrades than does a guitar routed for minihumbuckers.
