Some expensive gear. Good thing I'm not a drummer.

I saw so many big acts under similar circumstance...That's one reason why I find it hard to go to concerts now...Such sticker shock.

The only place I go for live music anymore is The Ark - holds 400 and tickets are usually between 20 and 35 for some big name acoustic folks. I can't handle crowds any larger and as you say, won't pay the big bucks for the "arena" concerts.

Since Youngstown is right between Pittsburgh and Cleveland, most of the "club" tour acts played here in those days. This was also around the time the mills closed (late 1977), so the city had a population of over 100,000, and everyone had some disposable income. By about 1982, we had entered the 'Rust Belt' and all that started to change.

I was just looking through the tour date link you posted and I didn't see the Delta College show in '74, but I did find this interesting:
May 18, 1974 North Side Drive-In -- Lansing, Michigan [first U.S. show] I was living about 25 miles from there at the time! History......and I missed out again

I've been playing drums for about as long as I've been playing guitar (but I play drums A LOT more than I play guitar). I enjoy drums so much more than playing guitar...except when it comes to loading gear. Oh, I'm also the PA guy too. Still worth the trouble. It's a lot of fun. |
