Bourgeois OM advice needed....
I am stuck deciding between a 2003 Bourgeois OM with Adirondack top and Mahogany back & sides and a 2005 Bourgeois Vintage OM with Adirondack top and East Indian Rosewood back & sides. Both guitars are near mint.
I play 95% fingerstyle, I love rosewood and mahogany OMs, and I tend to play in dropped tunings, mostly dropped D, open G, and DADGAD. I will not have the ability to play either guitar before buying. Any opinions/experience/advice to help me decide? Thanks in advance, Scott |

I love them both. I have a Collings OM1A (mahogany) which makes me smile just as much as my Santa Cruze OM/PW (rosewood). I just don't know Bourgeois guitars very well and was wondering if Dana had more magic with one wood combo than another.

Thanks Rupert - amazing songs and playing on your Quadraped CD - really enjoying it! I'm a fellow Lowden fan (O10c).

Scott,
I have only played the eir/adi version. It is a used pre-pantheon/Dana built one here in St. Augustine for $2,400 and it is a tone monster. It is so broken in and plays like butta, but does show some wear. If I didn't already have 3 fine ladies I might jump on this one. I like both eir and mahogany, but this adi/eir is a great combo and really has it all. As primarily a flesh f/s player, I enjoyed all aspects of this particulr guitar for my style of attack. Without getting overly into adjectives, i would say this guitar was very balanced with that nice eir overtone and slight natural reverb. Not like a Goody or a Lowden, but still rich and a bit more fundemental. Again I can only give an opinion on this particular guitar, but I am sure the hog sounds good in its own right. I have liked all the Bourgeois' I've played so imho I believe there is some consistency there. Best wishes, noledog

Thanks Eric. The necks are the same. The mahogany OM is $500 less than the rosewood OM and it is a standard version, not vintage like the rosewood OM.

Dana does them both very well. I have a Mahogany/Adi and it's really sweet.

I've a OMS cutaway (adi/eir) with pyramid bridge that is absolutely lovely. In these size bodies, I tend to prefer rosewood.

I don't think it comes down to the woods, it comes down to the individual guitars.
I have 3 Martin OM/000's, Adi over Mahogany, Alpine over Madagascar, Engelmann over Tasmanian Blackwood, no wood combination is superior, they are different. If possible I would play both Bourgeois, forget the woods, and see which one your ears like best. Nobody can type on a keyboard on an Internet forum and figure out which guitar is better, for themselves let alone a stranger. If there is no way you can play them, including eating shipping which I would consider so I could A/B, being mostly fingertstyle as you stated I would slightly lean towards the rosewood. Good Luck!!

You said you can't play before you buy, but have you heard them? Maybe the seller would willing to send you some sound clips.
