You need a special cable to use the digital outputs on the back of that preamp (and the right piece of equipment to receive that kind of signal). To go into a regular XLR or TRS input on a mixer, use the line outputs.

Hi,
while the dbx is not bad, I have not understood what you want to achieve - the converter is ok, but not the best on the market for todays standard. I used it as mic-pre with good results, but if you just want to "colour" your guitar-sound, I think you would be better off with something like an electro harmonix black-finger, to the Vox Clean Boost or similar pedals. If you still want to use it for whatever reason, you would have to use an analogue connection, or a mixer with digital input to convert it to analogue again - since your speakers and the PA system are as analogue as the sound waves in the air So - converting to digital in the dbx and converting to analogue in a mixer is possible, but perhaps...makes no sense? I did not try the Black Finger on Guitar - but really liked it on Bass. It has a lot of "dirt" if you want.
The Vox I was talking about is not a cooltron - its the yellow thing, I think the series is called Tone Garage. The difference is that it has full voltage on the tube, like the Black Finger has. As far as I know, the Cooltrons are low-voltage designs. I am still not sure that I know what you are searching for... Some warmth? Dirt? Anyway - both units can not only be useful because of the tube-sound they can generate, but also because of their main-function (Compressor / Booster). Have fun trying them. Michi |
