Love the black and white shot and the stunning simplicity of that guitar. Thanks for sharing the new shots.....

Thanks for your post!

I didn't really like that shot in colour and thought I'd switch it to B&W before I delete it -- but it turned out much better in B&W so I decided to keep it.

Last video of my short Christmas break...

I recently composed a piece on my Olson called "An Indian in Paris", which I've recorded with both my SJs.

Here's a more "muscular" version played on my Kraut OM:

http://youtu.be/wW-7GiIihnI

The guitar is tuned in open Cm capo 2 (effectively open Dm as per my Olson recordings).

Thanks for listening!

Fabulous playing, Mau. I love the powered runs, contrasting with the pauses that let your notes just sustain and sing on. Sounds like a very productive Christmas break, playing-wise. Thanks for sharing the fruits of it!

That is perfectly voiced for the Kraut guitar and also is a beautifully conceived composition. Thanks for posting it Mau.

Thanks so much!

I'm a melodic player and if I don't make an effort I'd always play easy/cheesy melodies. That is why I try to incorporate a few technical elements in most of my arrangements.

Scale runs are really fun to play on open tunings -- and I try to come up with new ones every time I practice.

Thanks, Jon.

Different guitars inspire me to play differently.

The Kraut has so much horsepower... I thought I could record this piece in 5 minutes but it turns out I needed hours, dozens of takes and a new battery before I was semi satisfied with one.

Thanks so much for your post.

I was in a "difference place" indeed when I wrote this piece...

Powerful stuff, Mau--thanks so much. Really love the turbo-charged, horsepower version on the Kraut...

Thanks, Nemo! The Kraut has such a large dynamic palette that I was really afraid of causing an ugly peak during the solo. Glad the Apogee has the "soft clip" feature...

Thanks Brian! The lingering bass notes (e.g. 1m22s) were inspired by the way you start your beautiful rendition of Hana -- I just exaggerated the idea a bit further...

i just compared this recording with the others on your Olsons. seems like the Kraut falls right between the two Olsons. more fundamental like the tree but with more overtones. less dark and ominous than the BRW Olson. all three are good enough for me, but i like the more focused bass on the Kraut better than the darkness of the BRW Olson (just personal preference). i also like the the Kraut a hair bit better than the tree due to the added overtone content. but i'm really splitting hairs at this point. plus, add in the fact that your approach is a little different on the Kraut and that adds another dimension to the comparisons.

keep offering up this kind of stuff. its really great for some of us! i know i really appreciate it.
