Schertler jam 150
I am thinking about adding a A&H zed 10x mixer as I am not too keen on the efx on the schertler. Can this be done? Anyone ever tried it?

It can yes but a simpler preamp might work or a Bose Tonematch.

That is what I would consider, however ...
Think about the effects you want to use. For example, if you want a really good reverb until consider a unit or pedal between the guitar and the amp. This will allow you to leave the vocal channel simply to deal with your voice — you may want less treatment there (if you are singing of course). I mainly use the FX loop for a footswitch to switch off effects when I'm speaking but it depends what you are using your amp for. There are some very good reverb pedals out there and some of the effects stations from people like Zoom will offer you more effects than you have any right to want to use with an acoustic guitar !!!
