Default Shawn Lane - heartbreaking

Saw this and some of you may already have but I thought it'd be worth sharing for those who've missed it... A song written for his sister who died in a car accident, he later also died at a young age due to health issues. You can really see the pain in his face, and the music moves you to tears:

I've known of Shawn for years - got Powers of Ten when it first came out. I wasn't blown away by it musically - he played a lot of notes, FAST.

However, listening to the video you linked, made me think when a great player he was. I'd go as far as you say that's the best thing I've ever seen him do. It has more raw emotion than the album version and he really keeps a lid on his need-for-speed.

Really, really good. Reminded me a lot of Jeff Beck.

It's so sad he died young.

Cheers,
Steve

Shawn was not of this world and a true loss to the music world as a whole. Even today, no one can play like him.

I never heard of Shawn Lane until reading this thread, so I spent some time today learning about him and listening to his music. It was a bittersweet chapter for me - so much gain and so much loss at the same time.

Thanks for posting about him. I may never have known his genius otherwise.

I had much the same reaction... Thank you...
