Howard Klepper
Guys,
Just heard sad news through the grapevine that Howard Klepper's house and shop burned in the San Fransisco fires... Howard and his wife got out - but the house and shop are a "Total loss". Say a prayer for Howard and his wife. This is a crushing blow. |

Bruce and Howard are long time friends, and more recently neighbors since Howard moved to that part of California a few years ago.

Howard and Helen live(d) about 30 minutes north of Bruce (Who is in Petaluma) in the Bennetts Valley area, southeast of Santa Rosa. The “Nuns Fire” (http://www.fire.ca.gov/current_incid...ils/Index/1868) ravaged that area on Sunday/Monday. As you can only imagine, their life is totally upside down right now.
Terribly, tragic things can and do happen to good people...😥

This hurts my heart! No only are Howard and Bruce builders of extraordinary guitars, they're Good People! I'm sure others affected by the fire are, too, but I've met these two guys, and enjoyed getting to play some of their creations. I'm a praying sort, so these two AGF friends will be on my list beginning now.

Yes. Google Earth has an excellent satellite view of their now former residence--snapped on June 16, 2017. Looked like a wonderful place to live.

Terrible news. Fortunate that they got out alive but that workshop (not to mention personal items as well).

I doubt Howard is in any position to be reading AGF right now but my prayers and thoughts are with him.

Yes, a tragic scenario. Here's a map of the fires.
http://www.calfire.ca.gov/general/firemaps To correct the OP: There are no "San Francisco fires"; they are mostly in Napa and Sonoma counties. Good point, as to insurance for luthiers. It may be that they don't (can't) have coverage for fire damage, due to the "fuel" they store and work with; also, I assume that fire sprinklers are never included in their facilities. |
