that is sister rosetta sharpe but, i have the entire bessie smith cd collection. great stuff. amazing how others after her learned so much from her. probably not too many electric guitars were used in her songs as she died in 1937.

sharpe was an amazing player!

play music!

Wow, I knew that, but I had been listening to Bessie Smith on YouTube for about an hour and then stumbled on Rosetta Sharpe and just typed in Bessie Smith like an idiot. Thanks for pointing that out.

It's Sister Rosetta Tharpe and yeah, she was a pretty incredible performer. First saw some videos of her a few years back, but never saw this one before.

Thanks for posting, and you can go into Advanced Edit mode to correct her last name to Tharpe.

Here's the first video I ever saw of her. Nice solo!

Gotta love SRT! Great playing and singing, helped shape the early days of R&R probably w/o even knowing it.

Because of the kindness of a fellow AGF'er, I have the CD called, "Shout, Sister, Shout"! Performers like Maria Muldaur, Odetta, Janis Ian, Marcia Ball, Phoebe Snow and Rory Block sing their tributes to Sister Rosetta. It's great...
