Default First Wiring Job Help Needed.

I decided to teach myself a little electrical pick up wiring with my inexpensive Squier affinity PJ bass.

The bass had mini pots and cheap components so I picked up some Bourn pots, a .47uF orange drop as well as a Duncan SPB-1 P pick-up.

Not sure what the original cheap pick up was but I measured it at around 8k on my multi-meter
The SPB 1 is 11K

My P Pick up after wiring has considerably less output now and I think a less deep bass. I've adjusted the pickup height to be about 3/32" when pressing down on the last fret; a similar spec to what I had the old pick up adjusted to. Something isn't right, the new pick up should actually be hotter and it's lacking in volume and is very quiet compared to my J pick up.

I'm following this wiring diagram here:

Here's a picture of my wiring:

Looking at pictures of the SPB 1 online, it seems that pole pieces on my pickup are really sunken in? Could that be the issue or did I screw up the wiring?

This is my first wiring job ever so please be kind Doing my best here.

Any help is appreciated!

I'd check to make sure the pots are first the correct values needed for the pickups, then make sure you wired the volume pot correctly.

Got it all sorted out. The pole pieces had fallen into the pickup plastic housing and recessed them. Wiring turned out great!

Great upgrade overall...I'm sure the upgraded pickup made a much bigger difference, but having also upgraded all the wiring with premium components just sweetens the deal.

Really happy with it and having a blast with that soldering iron!
