I use Zinsser clear shellac (Seal Coat isn't available around where I live) and let it sit for a week before decanting the top half into a glass bottle (so you can see it) and leave the wax settled at the bottom of the can. I cut that 50-50 with denatured alcohol and call the result a 1# cut of dewaxed shellac, and it's probably fairly close to that in fact. I put two coats of that, wiped on hard, around the binding channel and on the binding if it's wood, and use ultra-thin CA glue. Have not had issues with strength, adhesion or staining.
