Gap under bridge worries
Hi
I have a gap under my bridge. I have not noticed it before. It is a 24.75 inch scale, slotted bridge and I have 12-52s on it currently. I got the guitar just under 2 years ago, it is a Blackbird Lucky 13, carbon fibre. In the video - first with a thicker photo then with thinner printing paper: Gap seems to only be in the middle part. https://youtu.be/AZOUknBygjM Is this a problem? Thanks in advance.

Could be glued without removal, but best option (if the guitar s a keeper0 is to have bridge removed, top and bridge surfaces cleaned and reglued.
Funny looking top- is it plastic? Carbon fibre ? - Don't know what glues would be required.

It's carbon fibre (Blackbird), I'm not really looking to sell this at any point. Would it be foolish to leave the bridge as it is? The outer sections seem well glued. For all I know (and think) I may have got it like this when I bought it nearly 2 years ago. How much would reglueing cost? Is it a difficult job?

I think you know the answer to your own question. It's like driving with under inflated tires, You know there is a problem and it should be fixed, it may go on for years with no damage but....... that is warranty work if it is a newer Rain otherwise just have it removed and reglued. That would drive me nuts knowing it was there. Just my opinion

Well, there appears no gap at either end of the bridge. I'd be curious to see if the gap extends beyond the bridge pins, as it seems the paper test went about as far as the pins. The bridge looks like it is pulling from string tension and if progressive, the fault will at some point mess with the sound. Ultimately it could pop off.
Could the guitar have been shipped like this from the factory? If so it might simply have been a glitch when gluing and not a progressive failure. I'd check to see if there is any warranty help available and get advice from the manufacturer. Given that this is a carbon fiber top, you might be looking at a specialty adhesive which could complicate a bridge removal.

I believe usually with CF tops, they bond the bridge directly to the top finish (with CA glue I believe?) so it may not be a simple pop-off-and-reglue job.

This sounds like a question for Blackbird to answer directly. An email might take a few days to get an answer, but they seem to be very helpful people. Since you are in Europe, Sirwhale, shipping back to the factory in San Francisco might be prohibitive, so ask what you could do locally.
The first piece of paper did not look too bad to me, but the thinner paper went fairly far under the bridge. It looks like there is relatively little bridge contact between the string pins. Send a link to this video directly to Blackbird and see what they say. |

Just got this from Blackbird
That does not look too bad to me as well have a 'glue channel'. I would not be worried. Best, Joe
