What instruction book for fingerpicking ukulele
I just received my ukulele baritone yesterday. I love it and want to do some serious fingerpicking. Solo's that is. Not just pattern playing. So I need a book of instruction that teaches just that. In my search so far all I get is guitar books.
I want ukulele instruction book/s. I have plenty of music books for guitar such as Contemporary Travis Picking, Solo Fingerpicking by Mark Hanson, and so on. I reads music well and play piano so I do not need a beginners book. I have no natural ear for music, at least I never developed one. I am a parrot, I do good with a music score in front of me. About the only thing I can do by ear is pick out the single note melody of a number if I know it well and then I also know the key. Beyond that is where I need the help in fingerpicking. All recommendations are appreciated. Thank you.

I've seen lots of books for fingerpicking tenor or soprano ukuleles, but not baritone. That's a tough one to find. Good luck finding one.

If I used fingerpicking instructions for a tenor on my baritone, would it not be the same except for being in a different key?

The only thing you need to watch out for is whether your baritone is tuned in linear tuning (which I think they mainly are) or reentrant, which has traditionally been the more common tuning for soprano/concert/tenor. Daniel Ho's book "Polani" has some lovely pieces in it arranged for linear tuning, but it's not an instruction book, just tab and notation. I think the album's available on iTunes so you could maybe have a listen to a couple of the pieces and see if you like them. It's also worth checking out The Ukulele Site, they have a sheet music section on there with some nice (free!) arrangements. |

You're right. I stand corrected. I had a senior moment. For some reason I was thinking baritone strings were E, A, D, G.
