Default Celestion speakers

Have an old Eminence speaker in my Ampeg Jet that I would like to upgrade. Are Celestion rockets any good? I see the V30's are quite expensive, dont want to break the bank here.

"any good" is subjective. i have some celestions in a couple amps and love them. i believe jensen p12r was the original speaker. you may want to check weber's replacement for that as well as Eminence and WGS.

steve de rosa is, i believe, an ampeg guy and he'll probably chime in.

play music!

Bought a Jenson C12K but it doesn't fit in the amp, too tall. Just read some reviews that Celestion Rockets sound terrible. I want something lighter than my heavy Eminence with better tone, willing to spend $75.00 or less.

Go to WGS's web site. I have used a few of their speakers with good results. They are usually priced reasonably. There are Youtube vids comparing their models with Celestions, etc.

A couple years or so ago they increased the price of the V30 by about 50%; it's still a great speaker but a bit pricey. You might want to look into the newer Celestion "V-Series"; they're about $50.00 less expensive, "British" voicing similar to the V30, but with a more modern sounding, tighter low end, rated at 70 watts. They seem a bit more resistant to flabbing out on low-end, chunky parts.

They also have the "A-series" which is their comparable release but in a more "American" voiced speaker; I haven't actually tried one of these, but it sounds as though they're be a good match for an American voiced amp. Might be a good match for that Ampeg.

doesn't fit, only have 4.8 inches of clearance, they look cool though.
