That's looking fantastic, Stuart! I'm looking forward to seeing the hand rubbed tobacco burst finish on the thin line.

Got them all braced and boxed up this weekend!
Pardon the messy bench… it happens. tomorrow I'll start flushing up the overhang, clean up the sides and begin routing binding slots and get onto bindings. |

Shaping the saddle for one of the bridges.
For the thinline, it was requested that I do my interrupted binding in ivroid. Here I've cut the channels and laid in the underpurfling glued in likewise with the tailpice |

Hey everyone. It has been a while since I've logged on here. I was out of town almost all of February, Had the great honor of spending some time with the incomparable Ken Parker in his shop and also had some family things to attend to.
But now I'm back and with the Memphis show coming up right around the corner I jumped right back in on these builds. Just shot the color on two of them and thought that was a good place to share. So far I've been showing the build of two of my memphis guitars (the thinline and a full body acoustic). But I'll include photos of the third one I'm working on as well just because why not? (it is the amber in the pictures). Enjoy The acoustic doesn't have lacquer on it yet. All three will be starting their clear coats later today. But it will be a natural finish, no color. So it will look like this, just a little darker and the wood figure will pop out a lot more. The thin-line is the most complicated color I've ever attempted. It started as a hand rubbed amber burst then turned that into a hand rubbed wine red burst. Then I sprayed a red/brown/black burst over top of it to cut down the brightness and add the more dramatic edging. Then ontop of that I added a solid black top. The final effect is pretty subtle but well worth it. In the lighter regions of the burst, in person, it is almost as if there is a rainbow of subtle colors. Im very happy with this color. It doesn't have any clear on top yet which is why it looks a little texture. and I still am cleaning up the binding. |

Hi Stuart--Fabulous looking work! Wish I were going to Memphis. Quick question for you: I see you are using X-bracing, which is frequently said to be smoother and more supple, better and perhaps warmer sounding out of the box. But have you built much with parallel bracing? My sense is this may be a bit stiffer early on, perhaps "not where the market is going." But would love your thoughts and observations on the tonal differences. All best, Richard
