Default Can you recommend any film, tv or video with acoustic guitar playing?

Heck, or even commercials?

I'm talking dramatic productions or maybe documentaries here, not concert movies.

Does anyone else feel like there just isn't much worthwhile actual guitar playing in film, tv, etc? Music is so predominant in movies and tv and there's much good music to be heard, but you just almost never get to see it being played.
I can think of a small handful of movies wherein guitar playing is actually a part of the story or an important aspect of a character....

Tender Mercies, with Duvall
Once, obviously
Forty Shades Of Blue had some playing in it, as did Deliverance and Last Days.

Are there any tv shows or movies that might be available via Netflix etc that include any worthwhile bits of guitar playing? The GEICO "How happy are they, Jimmy?" commercials even irritate me, because i don't believe those guys are actually playing that mandolin and guitar, which makes me want even more to see some actual playing for a change!

Sorry if this is an old/worn topic, and happy new year to all.

Cheers,
-js

Sweet And Lowdown about a fictional Django-like character. Lots of fake playing mostly.

"August Rush" features quite a bit of percussive playing (Kaki King's hands are the stand-in during close-ups).

"Once" with Glen Hansard features a lot of acoustic guitar work.

Janie Jones...a Tribeca film about a rock musician who basically loses his band and has to do acoustic gigs after a daughter he didn't know existed is dropped in his lap. Found this one on the video shelves of my public library. Better production values and acting than a lot of indie films.

"Crazy Heart" is a great one (as mentioned)....especially for us "ex-drinkers"

"Once" also one of my favorites- also already mentioned.

"Pick of Destiny" maybe? Tenacious D is always good.

Well, not a lot of on-screen acoustic guitar (though there will be plenty in the score I'm producing), but I'll immodestly suggest this film for which I'm serving as Executive Producer: Buddy Holly is Alive and Well on Ganymede:

Into the Wild is worth a mention. Great film with a full acoustic solo sound track by Eddie Vedder.

Also, probably more electric, but I've been hearing a lot about the Sugarman documentary.

Walk The Line - Johnny Cash
Coal Miners Daughter - Loretta Lynn
Sweet Dreams - Patsie Cline
Love Can Build A Bridge - The Judds
Living Proof - Hank Williams
Crossroads - Robert Johnson
The Land Where the Blues Began

La Bamba and The Buddy Holly Story (I think both had some acoustic, but mostly electric guitar)

For whatever reason the acoustic guitar has been a relative no show in motion picture and television production. Maybe because there's just very little by way of history that an executive producer can hang their hats on. There is "some" acoustic guitar in the Les Miz movie but I'm pretty sure some of it was double tracked with synths.

That said WG Snuffy Waldon is THE "a" call guy when it comes to acoustic guitar for picture. Look up his credits and you'll see he's done some really fabulous stuff (particularly for television).
