Default "In the mood" - Glenn Miller - fingerstyle solo guitar

Hi friends of fingerstyle guitar music,

this is my instrumental fingerstyle arrangement of Glenn Millers "In the mood".
Wikipedia says, the origin of this tune is not clear, but the main theme was composed by Joe Garland,
Eddie Durham did the arrangement and the lyrics were written by Andy Razaf.

https://youtu.be/d6Nfp2Bgfa8

I made this solo guitar arrangement around around 2008 or 2009 and did audio recordings in 2011.
I made a video recording in 2012, but was not satisfied with my playing. In the following time I almost
forgot about this arrangement, until I stumbled over my video in spring 2020. To re-learn my own
arrangment I watched my video and decided to immediatly tab it in Guitar Pro. It took me one more
year to make a new video recording.... - here it is and I hope you like it....

greetings from Germany
Gerhard

Gerhard,

Fantastic....have always liked Glenn Miller as a musician and arranger and fell in love with his music in the 60's. To hear his signature tune, In the Mood, and the way you played it, made my evening. I'm going to send you an email regarding your offer of tabs and score but seriously doubt I'll ever be able to play it like you did but it will be fun trying.

Thank you for posting. I'm no music critic and what I know about guitar playing would only fill a thimble, but the song was beautiful and very well played. If you ever do another GM song, give String of Pearls a shot and let me know...I'd love to hear it.

That’s really great. Looks like quite a workout!

The “In The Mood” riff came from “Tar Paper Stomp” by Wingy Manone, recorded about ten years earlier.

Hi John,
thank you very much for your comment and for your compliment.....
My arrangemnet is a little bit complex, but since the melody is a straight line, it´s only a ittle practice to get the blues-bass-line under it. The other parts are - I would say - mid level.... Difficulties come up, when you speed up playing... ;-)))

String of Pearls is also a very nice tune - maybe someday I make an arrangement for that....

greetings from Germany
Gerhard

Hi Ceciltguitar,
thanks a lot.... I made this arrangement a decade ago by just listening to the recording and then trying to translate it on the fretbar of my guitar.... I always try to be real close to the origininal tune and try to get the mood and the feeling of a tune. So it is 100% my arrangement...

greetings from Germany
Gerhard
