Default help choosing very basic entry level gear

Hi all, A little background to help you understand my goals. I recently spent just about a full year off my feet with 3 hospital stays involved. Glad to say that now things are getting much better, I'm doing really well with rehab, but I basically didn't touch my guitars for that whole time. Now I'm rebuilding my skills, and I thought recording myself might help me in several ways. I'd like to go very entry level, but not really on pc or laptop, more freestanding and small, just to hear myself, and also record some chord patterns to practice solo's and such. Do they make anything these days that you can just record and playback into? I'm thinking a small unit, similar to the old cassette recorders with the built in mics. Thanks for any advice, Mike.

zoom h4 (~$200), Tascam DR-05 (~$99). There are a few high quality digital recorders on the market. I've got the Tascam DR-05, and it does a pretty good job of recording acoustic instruments.
