Default Best Value Monitors: Equator D5, Yamaha HS50M's, Tannoy Reveal 501a's?

I sold a pair of Wharfedale 8.2 Diamonds a few months ago and am looking at the three monitors below for replacements. Any opinions on which may be the better deal here. All are brand new from well know retailers, price is for the pair.

1) Yamaha HS50M's $258

2) Tannoy 501a's $315
(Can actually get the Tannoy 601a's for ~$385-$400)

3) Equator D5's $400

I had a pair of Tannoy 501a monitors for a while. I mainly used them to play electric guitar through a Line 6 HD500. I thought they were great for that. I sold them eventually just because I went all acoustic, but I think they are a quality monitor.

The Equators are serious monitors. I obviously haven't heard all the monitors on the market (including the Tannoys and Yamahas you mention), but, of those I have heard, I have yet to hear anything under $1,000 that compares to the Equators.

Ha, Im in the same situation, replacing my stereo Wharfedales for some thing more accurate for my mixes, but within a tight budget. After reading loads of reviews I thought I wanted to go for the Yamaha's HS50m, people seem to love em for the price plus Yamaha have a good reputation. But Yamaha have now just released a new range to replace the HSm's and I have yet to read some proper (not just sells talk) reviews. The one replacing the 50m is called HS5m (catchy) and its around the same price. I want to wait to hear reviews on this before I go for it.

Realizing Equator only sells the D5's direct; I talked to Sweetwater today to get some feedback on the name brand options. Just wanted to share what they recommended:

1) Tannoy Reveal 501a (said these were best in class, great bang for the buck)
2) Mackie MR5mk2 (really, really good 2nd choice)
3) Yamaha HS5 (ok, but on the bright side; the HS50M may actually be better)

The Mackie's seem to get pretty solid reviews. So If not the Equator D5's for $400, check out the MR5mk2's.
They are on sale here for $129.99 => http://www.rakuten.com/prod/mackie-m...222441315.html

Just ordered the Equator D5 special that's running until 7/07. Pair of D5's, case, iso-pads, cables, free shipping all for $349.99.

As for the other options, I also went ahead and ordered the HS50M's, 501a's and some Mackie MR5mk2's. Got GREAT prices on everything. Will demo all in my home over the next 30 days and decide on which pair to keep. A lot of work but I was ticked yesterday when I drove 1 hour to GC and their monitor demo area was down for upgrades. So I said the heck with it and just bought em all.

I'm very interested to hear what you thought of them, and what you decided on.

Sorry, just saw this post. I demo'd the Mackie MkII's, Equator D5's, Tannoy's and Yamaha's and ended up keeping the Tannoy Reveals. They sounded the best to me. Good bass, very transparent, could hear all the mids just right, good high end without being harsh. I a/b'd all four of these against each other in my home studio setup. The Tannoy's have since released an updated Reveal series. I highly recommned them.
