Default My Trip to TME today...Martin D-21

The Music Emporium is a very precarious 15 minutes from my house. I wanted to test drive some dreadnoughts, so I took the short drive over there this afternoon. I basically auditioned all types of Martin ‘D’ models they had on hand. They all had their strengths but the all around winner for me was the D-21. Thumpy, almost J-45-like bottom end, punchy midrange and just just the right amount of twinkle in the highs. I feel a NGD coming on...

I am resurrecting this thread from last week...

I went back to The Emporium Music this weekend and again spent couple of hours running thru every Martin dread they had and again, this particular Martin D-21 proved to be my favorite. It has very D-18-like characteristics with great articulation, balance with a more focused bass response than the other rosewood guitars that were in the store, but with all that sweetness and lush overtones that are often associated with rosewood guitars. The midrange response and cut is surprising.

Great find! The only modern D21 model I have seen has a really deep-dyed aged toner top.

Yours looks to be natural, which is my normal preference, although it'd be fun to have an old D19.
