My 2nd kit build w some upgrades

I wanted to share this second build as I'm in the 14 day curing stage at this point.
It's not near a perfect instrument but boy is it better than the last one haha.
I bit off bending and using flamed maple binding ... which I'll admit I sanded down a little thin on one of the bouts as I was sanding a side ....live and learn...as well as doing a little humming bird headstock inlay.
Overall I'm happy, but I always think "wow I wish I had known ________" before I did it! I suppose that's part of the learning process. I think I can at least sell this one to make a few bills back to fund my next one which will be a scratch build (possibly minus the neck)






Soooo now I wait to buff and glue the neck and set the bridge

I also have to say this stewmac kit was worlds better in quality than the first kit I built which was a Martin.

This has been a fun build and I can't wait to play it!!

That's pretty cool. I like how the inlay turned out, especially the little tail piece on the left side. It's a nice accent. Please post a recording when it's ready!

I'm not good enough yet to make that inlay quite as delicate as I had drawn it out...

Yes, the inlay is cool! did you rout that out or chisel it?

Well, it's done and it IM VERY much enjoying playing it! I don't know how it happened but the stars smiled on me and it plays really really good.
Next build will be Chechen (spelling) and Sitka. Already looking forward to it.
Before that... I'm going to research and build a side bending machine ... I think I can.

Love it! I'm about to do my first StewMac kit and am very interested in doing the binding as you have done. Could you give more information on the maple binding like where you got it and are the black-white strips part of it or completely separate? I've seen some Maple binding at StewMac that has a black-white-black edge to it so wondering if you used that or something similar. Thanks!
