Wound G String?
Does anyone know of any sets of classical guitar strings available with a wound G string?
I know that Thomastik - Infeld makes a set, but they're a bit pricey... |

D'Addario Pro Arte also make some, at similar high cost.
More affordably, look at La Bella 850W (wound 3rd). Or even La Bella 860 which has nylon-wound B & G as transitional strings. |

Savarez make both nylon and silver wound G strings. Strings by Mail has them listed as single strings under their Savarez "Speciality Strings" section.
I used the silver wound G string for a while to avoid the normal G string tubbiness, but decided they were overwhelming the other 2 trebles. Knobloch Active Carbon trebles..particularly the G string are much better. The Double Silver Basses that they're paired with if you buy the whole set are excellent..last twice as long as other basses but cost even more. Or just buy individual Carbon G strings to pair with other sets ($3.99 each) |

But D'Addario sells single strings in many gauges, so sometime I need to try one of those for a wound G. I think NYL020W (13.9lbs tension at 650mm scale length) would be about right. |

I use La Bella 900-W Elites. Wound g-string and polished strings. Golden colored and very warm and responsive. I've settled on these after trying many others.

I use a wound third because standard nylon and even carbon just sound dull and " thuddy"to my ear. I know they break more often,,
But I'm on its worth the trade off. Rick

Thanks for the heads up about single Savarez wound G strings from Stings by Mail. I prefer the wound G string, but find they don't last long.
