Not only does Slash have his own playing style and tone, he also has a unique look with the top hat. All you need to see is his silhouette and you know who it is. I find that when people try to mimic his tone, their #1 mistake is using too much gain, either on the amp or a high powered pickup.

Frank Zappa will always be on my top list. But there are a lot to choose from, Danny Gatton, Les Paul, Hendrix and so on.

Do I have to keep it at 1?.....Phil Keaggy would be my top pick. After that I might want to include Jimmy Page, Alex Lifeson, Clapton....and all the usual suspects....

To me it's always gonna be Angus Young. If you've seen him in interviews, he is the most humble and modest guy ever.

Hey Lonesomedave... how can a guy w/that handle not bring up Kim Simmonds on a thread like this?? OK, I will. Been listening to the guy for over 40 years and the riffs and solos he was doing back in the sixties still sound fresh as what I heard him playing live just a few weeks ago. Keepin' the blues alive!

Good to see some love for a few unsung gods of the electric guitar...Rory Gallagher, Roy Buchannan, Johnny Winter and Kim Simmonds...shouldn't forget Lonesome Dave Peverett (Foghat), Alvin Lee and Lowell George! A couple of new (to me) players I'm digging now: Gary Hoey and Jimmy Thackery...Jimmy's been around forever but I just recently discovered him and can't get enough of his raucous, bluesy style, and Gary Hoey is definitely up there with the blues-shredding greats like Eric Jonson and Joe Bonnamassa!
Tip o the hat to Prince too...weird dude, great player...
