Default Getting old, memory shot.

Howdy, new member - old person. I bought a Seagull M6Gloss way back in 2002. Nice guitar. But I forget if the top is spruce or cedar. I am fairly sure the body is mahogany. But I dont know how to figure out which top wood is on the guitar. Any answers?

Welcome to the fray! A quick Google search brought up this article. Looks like the top is Mahogany.

Sam, call or text or e-mail the company and give them the serial number

Don't worry about it until you forget where you put it!

They say the memory is the second thing to go. I can't remember what is the first.....

I have an old M6 predating the S6, and I am certain it is a cedar top with mahogany laminated body. If not cedar, it has the darkest and yellowest spruce top I have ever seen. But mine is not the gloss model mentioned above, and is probably approaching 25 years old. I bought it used years before your was built.

I've only seen them in Cedar or Spruce. This is the header from the link as I see it: "Seagull M6 Gloss - Mahogany & Spruce Acoustic"

On my old M6 it's written right on the label inside the soundhole. Take a peek.
Mine states "M6 Spruce" on the gold Seagull logo off to the right side of the label.

Incidentally, the M stands for mahogany, which is the mahogany/cherry laminate of the back and sides.
The 6 designates the number of strings, of course.

I have the satin finish...I forget what the called it back then, so it's not just you who is getting forgetful. ... but it seems to have darkened considerably over the years so I wouldn't use color alone to determine the type of wood. It's much darker than another spruce topped guitar I bought new ealier this year.

BTW, somewhere I have the formula for determining the date of manufacture by the serial number. If you're interested, I'll dig it up and post it.

Ha - the guys I jam with every week project all words and chords on a big screen TV. You don't have to remember anything.

So now, about all I can remember is the first lines of a lot of songs . . . .
