Difference in Ovation preamps?

Hi all, new here. I'm looking at a couple older Ovation guitars. Both are model CC057, but they have different preamp systems. Other than the tuner (which isn't a deal breaker to me), is one of these better than the other for sound quality or dependability? Thanks!

From my dark memory of Ovation ownership days, the OP20 is the better of the two. Unfortunately, it will still sound like an Ovation though.

Yes the OP20 is the better of the two, one advantage being you can trade up to an Op Pro Studio if you so desire as they are interchangeable.

As for it sounding like an Ovation, yes that is true and many don't care for that sound. However the Ovation is a road warrior that with proper signal processing is an excellent gigging tool. My C2079LX is my backup behind my Godin. The Martin stays home.

I understand the snobbery against Ovations, but truth be told they do sound better for live gig situations. I have a couple other (hopefully) acceptable Yamaha full size acoustics for general playing.

To me, Ovations sound sort of bright and tinny, especially the thin bodied ones. Bright and tinny can work well in a band setting though. I wouldn’t use it for solo work.

I have two of the cheaper Chinese made Ovations and would be interested in knowing more about proper signal processing examples.
