Default TC Helicon VoiceLive 3X

My Digitech GNX4 got me into MFX units , it was great , so great some sucker stole it .
It was a super machine . Vocal FX / Electric Guitar FX / drum machine . 8 track looper/recorder
Plus what the OP wanted .

--

I got the TC Helicon to replace it . This unit is extremely cool even if it's not got a drum machine .

With my Roland GR33 guitar synth I can get enough of a cool
percussion/drums looping thang hapnin .

EZ :

I am not so convinced about no reverb on my vocals.. I cut it back a third. Hmm, scary.

This is of course a personal choice.i have tried
many verbs over the years. my favorites were
from the Alesis midiverb setting 23 (whatever that is)
and this boss ve8. This is acoustic guitar..again a little goes a long way.
If i'm playing roots or bluegrass its generally off.
But for blues..R&B .. i find its pretty crucial.
But a bad sounding reverb is just that..
anyone want to buy a HOF2 pedal.. ha

Yes, I read somewhere here that pre-TD we had to use reverb/delays to hide something that wasn’t quite right!

I will try it again with a different guitar, just to check....

But it sounds more......haha....acoustic,

Yes The TD is a pretty cool gizmo. I agree it imparts
a certain ambience or air that a little reverb can also
accomplish. For me if i am playing Bluegrass or
some Roots stuff I won't use either ( TD or reverb)
I just don't want that processed sound. And yes I think TD does indeed
sound Processed.. But for other types
of music I find a touch of Reverb gives the guitar the
sound i am after. A more classic sound that belongs there traditionally.(as traditional as say bb king or marvin gaye
not robert johnson)
I hope i am making sense. Again no right or wrong here just my subjective
opinion.

I did some more on Boss VE8 with no reverb on the guitar (Tonedexter'd) and the reverb on my vocal trimmed right back.

I really liked the sound like that - it even reminded me a bit of the PA at a little blues club I used to play at. No matter how much you turned the reverb up, it just didn't get much!

So I did a quick tune and recorded and ...I don't like it. Love the guitar sound without reverb, but vocals not drenched in reverb or delay..phew..recorded? Nope - only for the talented and the brave.

Reverb back up!

I have been using (rosewood Martin OM, with a K&K Mini) into a Tonedexter, then into the guitar input of a TC Helicon Play Acoustic with their Body Res zeroed out, so I could use vocal effects and voice reverb and their guitar reverb. It sounds pretty good through a Fishman SA220. And between the two processors (voice and guitar) there is a lot of tweaking room. I am still tweaking, but the guitar sounds great through this system so far.

Agreed. I use the Switch 3/6 as well. So good!

Both the TC and the Boss units are pretty amazing, aren’t they?

Apart from live use, they are just ideal for practicing guitar/vocal just like live. (guitar and singing just don’t sound the same live as they do on the couch at home!) Plug in the Boss or TC and get a good idea of what is going to happen at the gig. Almost. With headphones is even better for me.

It is just the power of the DSP chips these days, clean and clear digital sound/s in what is basically consumer junkiness, but they work great. I have no idea about the longevity, but....who knows what is coming next? I mean, I had all kinds of electronic guitar gadgetry over the years...and most of them were ‘wishful thinking’ to a degree.

I do prefer using the 2 xlr outs for stereo....have not tried mono yet. Don’t think I would like it.
