Default Boss AD-2, Para Di, Dtar Equinox, LB-6 and more

SCROLL DOWN FOR PHOTOS

1. Boss AD-2 acoustic preamp. Price: $79 inc. shipping to CONUS.
The AD-2 is an amazing pedal for the price and size. It not only adds back some acoustic resonance to your plugged in sound, it includes an excellent reverb (ambiance), an unbalanced (instrument level) out, a balanced DI out, a mute function, and notch filter. Lots of very useful features packed in this standard Boss-sized pedal. Could be used alone or with additional fx. There are many YouTube demos of this pedal. Includes box and all original literature. Boss info here.

2. LR Baggs Para DI preamp. Price: $110 inc. shipping to CONUS.
Still one of the best and most versatile preamps available. This unit has played some gigs, but still works perfectly. (BTW, the Para DI and the Boss AD-2 below work great together with the Boss in the fx loop Baggs preamp.)

3. D’tar Equinox Parametric Equalizer – Price: $130 inc. shipping to CONUS.
The Equinox from D-TAR, is an audiophile-quality 3-band parametric equalizer preamp with low noise components and circuit design that makes it ideal for studio and live use. The Equinox preamp's frequency sweep control, bandwidth control, and boost/cut control corrects or enhances very specific tonal problem areas. Dual notch filters control or eliminate acoustic feedback. D-TAR Equinox is an ideal preamp for musicians who require precise control of their EQ in any environment. Great for acoustic instruments. Many bass players also use the Equinox. (Color dots in photo are paper stickers that have been removed.)

• 3 Band Parametric Equalizer Preamp — Allows precise EQ control to correct or enhance very specific tonal problem areas with frequency sweep control, bandwidth control, and boost/cut control
• Two independent notch filters Eliminate acoustic feedback
• 20 dB gain switch Provides instant gain
• True bypass switching of non-activated functions — bypass switch removes entire EQ and notch filter sections from signal chain leaving only high impedance, low noise input and buffered output
• High quality components — extremely low noise and distortion, audiophile quality sound
• ¼” stereo input jack — allows connecting input and output to Solstice on a single, stereo cable
• Compact, portable design — can be used as a stand-alone preamp for ultra portable instrument amplification systems
• Input Jack: ¼" Stereo, input on tip / output on ring, allows interface with DTAR Solstice (Acoustic Mixer) using a single, stereo cable.
• Output: 2) 1/4” Mono jacks or mic level xor
Power Supply: Internal ±15V derived from 15VAC external, wall mounted power transformer.

4. Yamaha FX500 – $85 inc. shipping to CONUS.
Yamaha calls this 1990s unit a “high-performance digital signal processor intended for use with electric guitars, electronic keyboards and other instruments.” However, I discovered many years ago that it has just the right combination of effects that work great on acoustic guitar. I’ve owned several of these over the years and found the combination of compression, distortion, equalizer, modulation (chorus, flanger, symphonic, tremolo), and reverb/delay/echo is a perfect match for acoustic guitar, and very useful for electric. The eq section along that includes a sweepable mids is worth the price. FX quality is equal to SPX90, if anyone remembers those popular units.

This is, of course, an older unit, but is in very good cosmetic condition. Operationally, it’s perfect.

91 memory locations
MIDI control
includes original power supply
headphone output
stereo line outputs

5. Countryman Type 85 DI – $108 inc. shipping to CONUS.
Built like a brick, the Countryman Type 85 active DI is a mainstay in studios and stages around the world. Connects any high impedance instrument, even piezo pickups to a balanced mic input while providing a strong, clean signal to the mix board without adding noise or distortion.

The Type 85 uses only hand-selected, high-quality discrete components woven into a single-ended, Class A circuit - much like a classic tube mic preamp! The sound? Smooth and sweet. Ultra-rugged and ready for the road, we've heard stories of engineers running over their Type 85 with a truck and then using it in a gig the same day! Another stand-out feature is the fact that the Type 85 can always isolate ground, even when running on Phantom power, eliminating unwanted hum and buzz.

6. LR Baggs LB-6 pickup with Colosi bone saddle – Price $55 including shipping to CONUS.
This is a little different kind of pickup. It requires some bridge slots to be enlarged (a luthier's job). Since this pickup has already been sanded down to fit in one of my guitars, I've included measurements (Low E/left to High E/right) on the photo (left to Caution: Great pickup, but requires some expertise to install.
