Default Soloamp project apparently now D.O.A.

Happened to see this on the Kickshark website this morning; copied and pasted it, after not being able to get the "pre-order now" prompt to function.

"SoloAmp is the ultimate lightweight portable sound system for any usage — from singer-songwriters, to school productions, to business meetings. Project now terminated."

Several other Kickshark projects were also listed as now terminated. Feel free to discuss (or not).

I'm just disappointed that the Hydradock, Kanga Hoodie & Magic Jib projects have also all been terminated by Kickshark - along with the $$ of several investors, I would imagine...

Deleted my unnecessarily snarky comment.

You sir, are a gentleman.

I, on the other hand, couldn't help myself from posting; my excuse being that it prevented me from posting something on Facebook on a completely different subject matter that is politically inappropriate, thus potentially cheesing off several relatives and what few true "friends" I still have left...

I do believe the postings on the AGF about the difficulty this company was having probably helped to keep more folks from getting too deeply involved.

Let me see if I understand how this kickstarter thing works.

I can have an idea, collect monies based on presumed future production, then for whatever reason, I FAIL and keep the money?

I feel an idea coming on.

I wasn't going to invest, but I was hoping the project would succeed. I'm genuinely sorry it didn't.

I believe that you are correct, and as I was one of these unsuspecting victims taken in by this "deal," I tried to later do my part to spread the word on this forum regarding this. In the end, I got my money back -- thanks only to the concerted efforts of my credit card company (and despite the protests of SoloAmp and it's proprietor). Still, it was a lot of wasted time and energy spent over the course of more than year. I am relieved that the Kickstarter campaign has ended, as this now eliminates the likelihood that others will also enter into unfulfilled dealings with this organization/individual.

Cool

That's really a shame. It seemed from the several videos of the product that it worked quite well and was going to give the other manufacturers a run for their money. Oh well. We'll never know what details caused the project's demise.

Read a recent article about the issues with all the different "crowd funding" businesses. There is a trade organization that has guide lines that if followed get their endorsement. However only a small number of these funding businesses bother to submit the necessary required regular reports.

It's a wild west out there as few "investors" bother to do their "due diligence" before investing. It's a growing problem and sooner or later likely will draw the attention of authorities for rules and regulations. Ops, perhaps under the current circumstances maybe not.

It's a different product. The fellow that sold the original design to Fishman, has since started and dissolved companies to sell a similar product. However, in each instance he's evidently absconded with the money.
