Default Zoom Q2n (or alternatives?)

I've been thinking about some sort of recording device, especially small and portable for those moments when I come up with a keeper riff/song. I hadn't looked for a while and saw the price tag of this item, which would be useful when trying to remember how the heck I played something. Any opinions on this item or similar/better items? Would prefer to stay under $200 because my wife and kids are expensive and I'm not that good.

Personally, I'm not sure that I see the need for a camera. But I love my Zoom H2n and use it constantly... most often during band practice when we're working out various bits and want to sort and keep them.

The last time I looked at handheld recorders, they were about the same price. Video would be a decent bonus so I could keep track of how I played a given piece.

I love my Sony PCM M10. I think it was replaced by a new model ICD SX-2000. But the newer model looks pricey. I remember getting my PCM M10 for about $230.

Then I would say go for it. The Zoom video cameras are cool too.

"Old" Samsung S4. Microphone isn't very good sounding. My desktop and iPad don't record well, either.

I've found over the years that almost any mic close to the source beats almost any mic too far away. I did a search for "external mic samsung s4" and got plenty of hits.

When I compared the Zoom Q4 and Sony MV1 I added my iPhone 6 to the mix. The iPhone had the best video to my eye, but the audio was not as solid. https://youtu.be/lrUowiFo-0M

However by adding an iRig Pro to my phone I could could connect an external mic and that gave the phone the edge over either of the "music cameras." http://www.homebrewedmusic.com/2015/...-lampg-videos/ iRig has products for Android devices that might give you the audio quality you seek.

That Q2n sure is a cute little device though (grin).
