Looper - when does Auto Record actually start recording?

Hi everyone - new member here - greetings from Brighton, England! I have a new Digital Jamman Stereo looper which I usually use in freeform record mode. I tried Auto Record yesterday and found that it clips the first note and part of the second note before it starts recording! Is this normal? I'm sure there'll be a micro delay of some sort but a whole eighth note and more, played loud (open A string) before it actually starts recording? Has anyone experienced this or am I setting something wrong or is my Jamman faulty? Any advice would be appreciated ...
