Default Tonewood Amp Experience Update 2/12/16

Last March I saw a demo for this Tonewood Amp. It is essentially an effects box that is held on the back of the guitar by an internal magnet. They were offered for $119 if you got in early or via Kickstarter. Looked like an interesting and affordable purchase for acoustic guitar. It has 3 reverbs , delay, leslie, trem, autowah, and overdrive. Great idea for effects without plugging in. Impressive You Tube demos. Can be used as pre or a line out effects unit. Finally got it 2 weeks ago. Works as advertised except the delay didn't work at all. Autowah and overdrive useless. So I wrote them and said no delay. they said so sorry they would send me a new pre tested one the next day. Just send shipping info and a CC #. I reluctantly sent the CC# which they said was in case they didn't get the failed one back with my shipping info immediately. Ok. Never heard from them again. 5 followup emails and zero response 2 weeks later. They were always responsive before this so maybe this first run are duds. They did finally contact me and it appears as though they will make good on it. It is way cool apart from the delay not functioning. New one is on the way.

The padded metal rails fell off of my Tonewood due to an improper adhesive. I fixed it myself, but they shipped new rails anyway. Seems they are sending an entire new back panel now, as well.

I really, really like the unit. Future editions cannot help but to improve on certain aspects of this initial product. I think Tonewood will do very well once they work out the bugs.

They send regular updates via email and chronicle all of the production issues as well as upgrades as they figure things out.

I am in for batch #2 so many of these things should be ironed out by then but I am sure that there will be delays to the original expected ship dates because many issues that have arisen have caused production delays.

After doing quite a bit of research, especially reading reviews of the ToneWoodAmp, I have ordered one. Batch #3 with delivery scheduled for April.

Almost all the users love this unit, with the few complaints resulting from production delays or shipping problems.

In my mind, the production delays can only mean that bugs are being removed the better the unit's performance.

Once the weather starts to warm up, I love to practice outside.

We are blessed to have the Niagara Escarpment Biosphere in our backyard and there are a few locations on the Bruce Trail where I love to sit and play. This unit would allow me to add effects to the sound without having to carry more gear.

I will keep you posted on the results.
