Hello from a new user
Hi there! I was introduced to this forum by ksj over at my350z.com, and just figured I'd register. I've been looking for some time for a general guitar forum. Now that I'm pretty sure that I trend with acoustics, this is going to shape up to be a great site.
I started playing less than a year ago, when I bought a cheap clone of a Strat online. Since I live in a condominium complex, there are obviously problems with waking up the neighbors if I plug my electric into the amp; but if I'm watching TV, it's not loud enough to hear when strumming during commercials. Also, there's much less mobility. So in late July I picked up a Takamine G320. I loved the low action on the guitar, and the fact that it was all black was a bit unique. However, late in October or mid-November, I noticed a problem: when fingering the 12th fret on the high e string, I would get a note equivalent to fingering the 13th fret. In order to get a proper "E", I'd have to bend the string down toward the B string. This is very tedious. I took my Takamine to GC to see if they could help me figure out what was wrong. They proclaimed that it was a dead fret. The only way to get it fixed, they said, would've been to go to a technician to get a fret filed down or something. Well, long story short, I ended up leaving GC with a Yamaha FG730S. And now, here I am, hoping to learn more. Go easy, guys! |

Welcome aboard.
Any guitar you enjoy playing is a good guitar. As you become a better player you can look at higher priced guitars. My advice. 1. Play everyday,(best way to become better). 2. Play want you like and don't be intimidated by those who have better guitars. 3. Most importantly ENJOY YOURSELF!!!

Here's another warm welcome, longbowe. We're glad to have you with us. Stick around here very long and you'll learn a great deal. Some of it might even be helpful! All of it will be enjoyable, but I would urge one tiny bit of caution: they say it can be habit forming, almost like playing guitar. You'd never guess that by my post count, I know, but that's what I've heard.

Welcome, Longbowe! Enjoy your Yamaha. What kind of music do you play?

Hi Longbowe.
I've had 4 Yamahas over the years and they were all good.

Second, I'm not sure yet exactly what kind of music I want to play. My repertoire (such as it is) currently consists of the following, mostly in chords only: 1. Coldplay - The Hardest Part (chords) 2. Nobuo Uematsu - Eyes on Me ("Final Fantasy VII" theme) (chords) 3. Eric Clapton - Tears in Heaven (finger picking) 4. Harlem Yu - Qing fei de yi (chords) 5. Enrique Iglesias - Hero (chords) 6. Simon & Garfunkel - Mrs. Robinson (chords) 7. William So - A Man Should Not Let a Woman Cry (chords) 8. Wu Bai & China Blue - World's Number One (chords) 9. The Calling - Wherever You Will Go I think that's about it right now. I'm always looking out for more nice songs to try my hand at. |
