Default Best OM Spruce top Hog b&s for around $1,000.00

I mainly play a Gibson dread, but bought a Yamaha FS800 for a beater/practice couch noodler and am playing it almost exclusively. I didn't anticipate that I would get addicted to the OM size guitar so badly, and now of course I would like something with better sound, and I think the dreaded GAS is kicking in. I'm also kind of spoiled with the Gibson sound which could be a problem. Any thoughts?

I'd opt for an Eastman e6om like this one...https://reverb.com/item/28276607-eas...-acoustic-6278

Only one person (thanks RP) has any thoughts? I said 1000, but can go higher if need be.

If you like the OM body size/shape and are a Gibson fan how about a LG-2 American Eagle? It could "split the difference" for you? And get you into a smaller body guitar. Here's a great example of what it sounds like...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfNfsSwfsT8

Eastman or Blueridge are the two I'd look at if you want to stay under $1K. The next step up from those would probably be a Martin 000-18 which you could find for around $1,600-$1,700 used. For Eastman take a look at the E6-OM or E10-OM, for Blueridge the BR-163 or BR-163A.

This was the first one that came to mind. I had an Eastman E6OM-Ltd and it was a fabulous guitar. I foolishly moved it along to someone who fell in love with the sound, and still regret it.

While smaller than an OM, people on this forum seem to love the LG-2 AE, and I really like the sound. If it had a 1-3/4" nut, I would have bought one a long time ago. I've been dropping hints in the direction of Ed Bond at Halcyon to build one for me when my slot comes up.

Gibpicker, I’d suggest that you look for a used Larrivee OM-03. Satin finish, all solid wood, spruce tops and mahogany backs and sides. I see them selling for around $800-$900 on a fairly regular basis.

They’re professional quality instruments. I own two satin finish Larrivee “3 Series” guitars, and both are very good guitars.

Hope this helps.

I guess the 1.72" nut spacing doesn't bother me that much but...I'm sure Ed would be more than happy to accommodate your request?

In addition to the Eastman already mentioned the Alvarez Masterworks line are excellent and all solid wood. Brand new $599.00. It comes with or without a cutaway.

For a bit more, look at at Martin OM 18V. These are great sounding and the mahogany back-sides may give you some of the Gibson woody tone.

Eastman seems to be the first thing I think of a lot these days.

Yes, a used Larrivee should be on the short list -- OM03, OM40 or perhaps an L-03.

Guild OM-140 is nice.

A used Guild F-30 Std. would also be nice (and it would have real mahogany). I bought mine for $1,000 and it was pretty much mint, except for having a pick up added.

One option would be to keep your eyes peeled for a used Breedlove "Revival" OM-M, you see them going in the 1300-1400 range, sometimes a wee bit less and sometimes a wee bit more. Made in the USA, really nice guitars. There's a few going over on Reverb right now in the price ranges I mentioned.
