Default Since Moving - Goodall Necks Now Shaped Different

I recently acquired a Goodall RCJC with a slim carved neck.

I had owned a Goodall RCJ in the past, but the chunkier neck just did not sit well with me. I've always liked the Goodall tone, but just could not connect with the neck.

Well, a slim carved version of the guitar (with a cutaway too) became available and I got it. Nice guitar! But the neck is where I really noticed the difference. The slim version fits me perfectly.

I have been in contact with James Goodall regarding my recent acquisition and I asked him about the necks. It had been years since I emailed him. But rather than misquoting him, I'll post his email response to me. I asked if it was ok for me to let others on the forum know about this and he told me it was ok... so here's his comment on the necks:

"Our necks are slimmer as of 3 years ago (all the Calif guitars). So I would describe them as a little bit more 'V' shaped. They have always been slim front to back, just a little more 'C' shaped than say a Taylor, not thicker. You wouldn't believe how small an amount of wood off the sides of the shank of the neck will make the neck feel a lot slimmer. We almost never get custom neck orders now as most folks love our necks."

If you'd like to see my Goodall, visit my blog as listed on my signature line. Look for the post from December 3, 2012.
