I'm never able to answer any of these "if you could pick only three" questions (e.g., if you were stranded on a desert island and could have only three books).

I do think dinner with Dick Cavett and Bob Costas could be pretty entertaining, though. They're both funny and great story-tellers.

It would be a debate-style format.
Buddha would supply arms to Mohammed who would declare Jihad on Jesus. Pretty interesting dinner party!

I think it might be worth factoring in that a number of people on these lists would have the most appalling table manners!

Francis A. Schaeffer (philosopher) - I've met him before and even studied under him, but never broke break with him.
Richard H. O'Kane (America's most successful WWII submarine captain and a Japanese captive) - His book revealed a personality combining fire, humility, hilarity, and seriousness that I'd like to soak in.
David Gilmour (guitarist, philanthropist, agnostic, family man) - He just seems to be an interesting person and some of his employees describe him as "the nice one."

We'd serve my broiled salmon with fried rice, green beens, wheat rolls, and dessert of my wife's New York cheesecake.

Bob

Indeed! I have a feeling I'd have food for thought for years after such a dinner. I've read his "Christian Manifesto" and "How Should We Then Live", both challenging and wake up calls to professing Christians. His wife, Edith also wrote a great little book, "Christianity is Jewish". Did you study at L'Abri Fellowship?
