Default naptha, where have you gone

So I cant find it anymore. Hardward stores and the lighter fluid doesnt say naptha any more either. What can we use now that is safe like naptha?

Paint stores and most hardware stores will have VM&P Naphtha. Ronsonol no longer lists naphtha as an ingredient, as you mentioned.

I think it may be California specific.

Yep, that's the stuff to look for

I get mine at Home Depot, but have also seen it at Lowe's
A little less than $10/quart, and that much will probably last for years

Ronsonol Lighter Fluid was purchased by Zippo in 2010, and since then has used the original Zippo formula found in Zippo branded lighter fluid. Although Zippo removed the "Contains Naphtha" label from the bottle, it still contains it as recorded on the MSDS:

Naphtha's not a single chemical, but a petroleum distillate. As far as I could tell from my inquiries when I first discovered the change-over to Zippo, the ingredients are just as effective and safe as the old Ronsonol formula, label or not label.

the vm&p naptha msds sheet lists it as 90-100% naptha, whereas the ronsonol msds sheet lists it as 30% naptha.

Now that my Ronsonol has run out, I have and use Coleman Camping Fuel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coleman_fuel which 100% naphtha (aka white gas). Says nothing but naphtha on the label. Master luthier Bruce Sexuaer turned me onto it. That's what he uses.

Yes, I live in CA and no naptha in Home Depot etc. Good to know about the new Ronsonal cause that was what I used. Since it is 30% naptha and fuel
is 100% maybe thats too strong.

i'm confused.

the wikipedia article has this:
Coleman fuel is a mixture of cyclohexane, nonane, octane, heptane, and pentane.[3]

but the reference is to a msds datasheet on coleman's site that is no longer accessible.

the msds sheet i did find, http://zenstoves.net/MSDS/Coleman.htm, mentions the sole ingredient as Light Hydrotreated Distillate, which was the other 70% of ronsonol. what gives?

Why is everyone using so much naptha? Seriously, I feel like I'm missing something. I've used it once or twice to cleanup after a pickguard removal or pickguard change, but that's about it....

I bath my self in it once a week. I don't think it much, I mean I could be doing it daily.

i'm sure you are generally gunk free, although i don't really know the intensity of your lifestyle. for me, as i get older, a simple naptha sponge bath on the solstices suffices.
