Default Lighting for videos?

I realize this is slightly off topic, but what cheap options do you guys have for video lighting?

Any regular lights should work fine. Clip-on light holders with aluminum reflectors, throw a flood light bulb in, if you really need more light.

Sell a couple of your banjos and you'll be fine.

Good lighting can normally be achieved by good fixtures and three points of light. The Key Light is the main light from the front. The Hair or Back light is from above and behind and the Fill light is on the other side of the front than the Key light.

Below you can see I have the Key light to camera left, the Fill light to camera right and I'm actually using two back lights; one directly behind and above and another to camera right. As I move you can see the edge of light on my head and body from those lights. They separate me from the background.

The same ones I use for gigs - little clip on jobs from Home Depot.

Ty,
You're video is set as private, so it's not viewable.

Thanks Rudy,

I think having a key light with a diffuser, sometimes called a chimera, works best. It's an opaque fabric panel that softens the light making things look a lot more attractive than a bare bulb can.

I've also been experimenting with LED household lighting. My Fill light is a 4 foot long LED light with a light pink gel wrapped around it to make it less green. Without it, I might be able to correct the color after shooting, but gels are pretty inexpensive, so why not get the right tint (known as color temperature) from the git go?

Regards,

Ty Ford

Wink

Any kit from Cowboy Studio is a great investment.
This one for example will allow you to do the 3 point lighting (key, back, fill) easily.
There are lots of tutorials on youtube for how to set it up for best results.
