A beautiful work of functional art. Thanks for sharing it with us, Bob.

My pleasure JT...

Bruce has fabricated and installed an ebony belly bridge and a bone saddle. I see strings in 2018...

Default Strings

Well January 3rd brought, tuners (Schaller GrandTunes) a bone nut and strings. The guitar is now under load and can begin the transformative process of forgetting that it was once a tree. Tomorrow, the set up can be refined, a truss rod cover and pickguard can be crafted.

Looking great bob. I really liked the 16 inch Pernambuco guitar that I was able to play in Bruce’s shop, it was big sounding and balanced, interesting tonally and totally fun. I am sure yours will have the mojo.

I still want to get that east coast jam togeather. Maybe this guitar will push things along!

I will likely be at the Artisan Guitar Show in Harrisburg, PA in mid April with a few guitars in tow...

Default Pickguard

Bruce made a unique pickguard that harmonizes beautifully with the voluptuous, J-185esque body shape. As an hommage to Kalamazoo, he used a fire stripe tortoid material. In the detail on the right the curly koa in the rosette is making itself known...

Bruce made a simple but elegant truss rod cover out of some Brazilian Rosewood.

Here’s a shot of the finished guitar in its Harptone case... It will stay with Bruce for a week post-strings. He’s a fine player and I suspect it will see a daily workout or two before being shipped.
